Meghan Markle’s years-long estrangement from her father, Thomas Markle Sr., has taken a disturbing new turn following revelations about a letter she reportedly sent him while he was recovering from a leg amputation.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, allegedly confronted her father about child sexual abuse accusations in the letter, making it clear that he would never be allowed to meet her children.

The revelation comes as Thomas Markle Sr., 82, faces an investigation involving allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material, accusations he has denied.

Meghan’s Final Letter to Her Father

In December 2025, Thomas Markle Sr. was hospitalized in the Philippines after undergoing a leg amputation following complications from a blood clot.

During his hospitalization, Meghan reportedly arranged for a letter to be delivered directly to his bedside.

The letter was reportedly intended to be their final communication.

Meghan allegedly told her father that she knew about accusations involving the sexual abuse of children and that authorities had been made aware of the allegations.

She also reportedly informed him that he would never meet her two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

The letter’s delivery was reportedly carefully documented. Hospital management was allegedly instructed to bring it to Thomas, obtain his signature acknowledging receipt, and record him accepting it.

The reported contents offer new insight into why Meghan has maintained such a firm separation between her father and her family.

Disturbing Allegations Spark Investigation

The controversy intensified after reports emerged that Thomas Markle Sr. was being investigated over allegations involving child sexual abuse material.

His son, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly discovered disturbing material among his father’s belongings in Cebu, Philippines.

The alleged discovery included numerous images and videos involving minors.

Thomas Jr. reportedly contacted American authorities, including the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, to report what he had found.

Thomas Markle Sr. has denied the allegations.

The accusations remain allegations, and no criminal conviction has been established in the reporting.

Meghan Says She Was Warned Years Earlier

One of the most significant developments is Meghan’s acknowledgment that she had previously been informed about troubling allegations concerning her father.

In a statement released on October 23, Meghan explained that a letter containing allegations against Thomas had been sent to British authorities years earlier.

She said the information was subsequently shared with her and that she had been assured the allegations were being investigated.

The Duchess also explained that her decision to prevent her father from having contact with Archie and Lilibet was motivated by a desire to protect her children.

Her comments provide a new explanation for a family estrangement that has been the subject of years of public speculation.

British Police Reviewing Their Handling of the Allegations

The Metropolitan Police in London have now confirmed receiving a letter containing allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. in January 2019.

However, police acknowledged that the information was not shared with other law enforcement agencies.

The force is reviewing how the matter was handled and considering whether the case should be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

There has also been a discrepancy regarding the precise date Meghan first learned of the letter.

Her representative explained that recalling events from more than seven years ago could understandably result in a difference of several months.

Meanwhile, the FBI has acknowledged awareness of the allegations and indicated that it could assist Philippine authorities and investigate potential violations of American federal law.

A Family Estrangement Under Renewed Scrutiny

Meghan and her father’s relationship has been strained since before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

Thomas did not attend the royal wedding, and the two have remained estranged through years of public disputes and media coverage.

For much of that time, the reasons behind their separation were discussed largely in terms of family disagreements, media interviews, and damaged trust.

The latest allegations have introduced a far more serious dimension to that history.

According to PEOPLE, Meghan’s reported final letter was sent while her father was hospitalized in December 2025, and the Duchess has since publicly addressed her awareness of earlier allegations.

The publication also reported that British police are reviewing their previous handling of information concerning Thomas Markle Sr.

For now, the investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against Thomas have not been proven in court.
